Don


Don started playing drums in 1969 after seeing a drum and fife corp perform in a local Elks Lodge. Eventually his parents gave in after trying to get him to play every other instrument in the world. Don began self taught until he began studying with Alan Silverman who encouraged him to enter a national Gene Krupa Slingerland drum set competition where Don placed second in the NYC competition. After joining a couple of neighborhood bands Don began playing in many of the top New Jersey clubs subbing for bands such as Protege and others. Soon Don became a member of Jade Diamond a three and sometimes for piece band who consistently played legendary clubs such as CBGBs Lamours in Brooklyn the Rising Sun and Union Jacks to name a few while honing his chops studying with drum legend Joey Nevollo of Big Beat drum studios.. Don then went on to form Champion an original/cover band that toured up and down the east coast from 1986 to 1990 playing some of the east coast's biggest clubs such as The Bayou in Washington DC the Coppermind in Virginia the Rabbits Foot in Va while recording at both Waterfront Studios and the House of Music Studios. In the 90's Don recorded and played with bands in New York and New Jersey such as Sam-I-Am and Big Trouble while filling in with the Chioffe Brothers (Hall and Oates, Friends) and blues legend Paul Whistler playing in Asbury Park and the Village. While studying with Drummers collective and Diamond Head drummer Karl Wilcox..After moving to PA Don has consistently played with the areas best bands and studied and done master session with Brian Tichy, studied and filled in with Alan Jax Bowers, all while still subbing with bands such as The Stereo Junkies Emptvee (member for 4 years) Freefall, Sweet Charity, Moving Company CIA, Fantasia Project among others.. Don now brings all his experience to The Connected playing many genres of music from the 60s, 70s and 80s.
